What Do Rabbits Eat?

There is so much information out there on what do rabbits eat, but much of it just focusses on the manufactured diets ie: pellets.

Pellets were originally developed for breeders so that they could fatten their rabbits up quickly for sale! Initial research may also suggest that our bunnies are getting fat from their high-calorie pellet diets.

So, what are the alternatives? Well at RabbitsForPets.com we recommend a diet of hay (70%), fresh vegetables and greens (25%) and small amounts of treats (5%). Visit our article What Do Rabbits Eat? for a simple step-by-step guide.

Today we're going to look at just one aspect of this recommended diet - the 25% greens

It is recommended that you feed 1 packed cup of greens per 3lbs of weight. But there are definintely greens you can and greens you can't feed.

Here are some things you can feed your bun that you should be able to easily find in your fridge or garden...

Greens
  • Celery
  • Beet tops
  • Spinach
  • Carrot tops
  • Dark lettuce leaves
  • Peppers
  • Silverbeet

Flowers
